We adopted another dog!
Let me introduce you to our newest furry family member - Doug! Here he was on his way home after we picked him up from the shelter:

After our best boy Otis passed away a year ago, we knew we wanted to adopt another dog at some point. When we knew Otis was getting older (he lived to be 14, I had him since he was only 6 months old. To say he and I were attached at the hip is an understatement. That dog was my world!) so we adopted an older miniature pinscher/chihuahua mix named Dante so that Otis could have a friend and we could bond with another dog to make the inevitable loss easier to deal with. Of course I have to include a picture of Otis!

Fast forward to now, a year after Otis passed. Dante is now 11 years old, which is how old Otis was when we adopted Dante. So we had been talking about looking for another dog for a couple months. It really does help to have another furry friend to snuggle plus you're giving an animal a fresh start and a happy home!
We kept our eyes open at local shelters, hoping we'd find one that would fit into our family. There were a couple that we'd see and try to make an appointment to meet, but they'd already have been adopted out. So when we finally found a dog that we were both interested in and it worked out that we got the first appointment to meet him, we knew it was meant to be.
Needless to say, we fell in love and brought him home. His name is Doug and he's fitting in quite nicely! They said he is a miniature pinscher/chihuahua mix but we think he has more of a corgi/beagle look to him. Dante for example is a minpin/chihuahua mix and you can clearly see that in him (he's the little guy in the photo below) but Doug is shaped like a corgi (cropped tail, T-Rex arms and all!) and has the sniffer of a beagle LOL

Doug is a younger fella, only 3 1/2 years old, so he's taking some time to adjust to just like I'm sure he's adjusting to us and his new home. We've been used to having lazy old dogs for a while LOL but he's definitely a bit of a couch potato...

Our home feels complete now and we're happy to be able to give a new life to another dog.
